Methylene BlueMethylene Blue

Phenothiazine dye with unique mitochondrial electron carrier properties. At low doses, acts as an alternative electron carrier in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, bypassing complex I/III deficiencies and reducing ROS. Emerging nootropic and neuroprotective agent.

Enhances mitochondrial ATP production

Neuroprotective in multiple models

Anti-tau aggregation

Potent antioxidant at low doses

How it works

Mechanism of action

Cycles between oxidized (MB+) and reduced (leucomethylene blue) forms, acting as an alternative electron shuttle in mitochondria from NADH to cytochrome c, bypassing dysfunctional complex I/III. Enhances mitochondrial respiration and ATP production. Also inhibits tau aggregation and monoamine oxidase A.

Clinical evidence

The research behind Methylene Blue.

Methylene Blue Enhances Memory and Mitochondrial Function

Neurobiology of Aging (2015)

Low-dose MB enhanced memory retention and increased cytochrome oxidase activity in hippocampus, demonstrating dose-dependent cognitive enhancement via mitochondrial mechanism.
