ExemestaneExemestane

Third-generation steroidal (irreversible/suicide) aromatase inhibitor. Unique androgenic partial agonist property from its steroid backbone may offer bone-protective and libido-supportive advantages over nonsteroidal AIs.

Irreversible, sustained effect, no cross-resistance with nonsteroidal AIs

Androgenic metabolite may reduce bone loss

MAP.3: 65% breast cancer risk reduction

How it works

Mechanism of action

Irreversibly inactivates aromatase by covalently binding the active site. 17-hydroexemestane metabolite has androgenic properties partially offsetting bone loss. Effect persists until new enzyme is synthesized.
